Bone spur symptoms aren' technically symptoms of the actual bone
spur, but instead caused by the bone spur rubbing against a muscle or
tendon. Fortunately, you don' have to suffer as they can be treated
and the pain can be healed.
There are countless people out there that have bone spurs and they
don' even realize it. This is because bone spurs have no
symptoms. Bone spur symptoms are actually caused when the bone spur
progresses and rubs up against a muscle or tendon in your body. A bone
spur is a boney growth that juts out from t normal bone. People
automatically think of something sharp protruding from the bone, but a
bone spur is actually just extra bone that' normally smooth.
Bone spurs are caused by numerous things. They can grow as your
body ages and the cartilage breaks down around the joints. It'
actually the body' way of trying to heal itself, but unfortunately the
bone spur can become painful and tear the remaining cartilage. They
can also be caused by stress on the joints and feet caused by excess
weight. They can also form on the feet due to wearing poorly fitting
shoes.
Over time a bone spur will break down the tissue that surrounds
it. Once this happens the bone spur will rub up against other bones,
muscles or tendons causing a lot of pain, swelling and tearing. If you
have bone spurs in your feet, it can also cause calluses and corns
because the tissue will continue to grow in order to provide
additional padding around the bone spur. They can be extremely painful
and often require medical attention once the bone spur reaches this
stage.
Bone spurs don' require any treatment unless they are causing you
pain. When treatment is in fact needed it may not be directed at the
bone spurs, but instead directed at the other issues that the bone
spur causes. Treatment that is directed at the problem that caused the
bone spurs may involve weight loss in order to relieve any additional
pressure on the joints. You may also have to see a physical therapist
to properly stretch the area around the bone spurs. If the bone spurs
are in your feet, something as simple as wearing different and more
supportive shoes can help improve your condition. Treatment that is
directed at the bone spur symptoms directly may include things like
additional rest, packing the area with ice and anti-inflammatory
drugs, like Ibprofren.
